n-butyllithium; formaldehyd; diisopropylamine in tetrahydrofuran to a stirred soln. of diisopropylamine in THF at 0°C is added BuLi in hexanes, stirred for 30 min at 0°C, then Bu3SnH is added dropwise, stirred for 20 min, then paraformaldehyde is added, warmed to room temp., stirred 3 h; poured into Et2O/H2O, the organic layer is washed, dried, the solvent is removed, the residue is chromd.;
