chlorinating WO3 with Cl2 in presence of active carbon at 550°C according to G. W. Sears and F. Lohse, J. Amer. Chem. Soc., 1935, 57(5),794; treatment of oxide sublimate with ether at 20°C, WO2Cl2 residue (drying in vac.); evapn. of decanted soln. gives WOCl4 and WOCl4*(C2H5)2O which dissolves in a vac. at 57°C to give WOCl4;
