To a soln. of 9-octyl-9-BBN is added (C6H5)(CH)2Br, THF and aq. NaOH at room temp., mixt. refluxed overnight (14-16 h), react. mixt. diluted with hexane or benzene, residue oxidized by H2O2 at room temp.; Extracted, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), final product (E/Z=99/1).;
